Because it probably will. I’m on every job myself —not sitting behind a desk signing off on other people’s decisions which means the standard doesn’t slip the moment nobody’s watching.
Most builders know when to stop. When the schedule says move on. When the plan technically checks the box. I’ve just never been able to leave it there. If there’s a joint that’s slightly harder to frame right, or a finish that needs one more pass than anyone planned for, I’m the one still standing there at 6pm arguing with myself about it.
I haven’t figured out how to walk away from a detail once I’ve seen it, and honestly, I’ve stopped trying to.
We’re not chasing perfect for the sake of it — we’re building the kind of work that’s still standing, still solid, still worth talking about long after everyone’s moved on to the next job. That’s the only kind of legacy I’m interested in. It’s why I’m still hands-on, every single job.
